By NewsDesk
June 15, 2020

Please note the location change for Tuesday's Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive.

The new location is 125 South. Wayne Avenue (Radnor Activity Center aka Sulpizio Gym), right behind our firehouse. The township requested that they changed locations.

The drive will still take place from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16. Per current American Red Cross social distancing protocols, donors MUST schedule appointments in advance (walk-in donors cannot be accommodated at this time).

A few reminds within the email: please schedule your appointment ahead of time, no walk-ins allowed this year.
You will be required to wear a mask for the duration of your time there.

Information to sign-up for drive:

The Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive
in Radnor Township
Tuesday, June 16, 2020
7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

General Information:
This is a reminder that the Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive in Radnor Township is just one week away…and it will take place at a NEW LOCATION in Wayne! The drive was supposed to be held at the Radnor Township Municipal Building, but township officials have asked us to move it to the Radnor Activity Center at Sulpizio Gym. The Radnor Activity Center is located at 125 S. Wayne Avenue in Wayne, directly behind Radnor Fire Company (adjacent to the Radnor Middle School athletic field).

The drive will still take place from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16. Per current American Red Cross social distancing protocols, donors MUST schedule appointments in advance (walk-in donors cannot be accommodated at this time).

To ensure the safety of all blood donors and staff, the Red Cross has implemented a number of important new procedures. They include, but are not limited to, the use of face masks for all donors and staff, as well as multiple temperature checks and enhanced social distancing measures. The guidelines for donors are outlined at the end of this message or can be viewed here. Please read these guidelines before deciding whether to donate blood at our drive on June 16. If you would like to schedule a donation appointment, you can do so at www.chablooddrive.org, at www.redcrossblood.org (enter sponsor code CHAMemorial), or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.

While the current restrictions will prevent our family from being able to greet donors in person or offer gift bags or homemade refreshments, we are happy that we can still assist the Red Cross and hospital patients by organizing a blood drive in Carol's name during this extremely challenging time. As the New York Times reported last week, there is the possibility of a "staggering" drop in the blood supply in the coming weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and every donation is essential to ensuring that patients can receive the care they need. (But because it wouldn't be a CHA Memorial Blood Drive without some special treats, we have come up with a few ways to show our appreciation to everyone who donates, including an "enhanced" selection of refreshments and a surprise in the mail for all donors!)

For every unit of blood collected at the drive on June 16, our family will make donations to the Wayne Food Pantry, Radnor Fire Company/Radnor Ambulance, and the Live Like Blaine Foundation. If we collect at least 100 units, we will double our donations to all three organizations.

PLEASE know that we understand that a decision to donate blood at this time will be one that each donor will make individually, according to his or her personal circumstances. For us, the health, safety, and comfort of our donors will always be paramount. If you choose not to donate at this drive, rest assured that we understand and support that decision! And if you have already made a blood donation elsewhere this spring, thank you for continuing to help patients, particularly at this very difficult time.

Again, the important new guidelines implemented by the Red Cross are below. If you have specific questions about these regulations, you can contact the American Red Cross Donor Client Support Center at 1-866-236-3276. You can also visit RedCrossBlood.org/COVID19 for the most up-to-date guidance from the Red Cross.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have general questions about our drive on June 16 at the Radnor Activity Center (Sulpizio Gym). We send our sincere thanks to all of you for the support that you always give to our efforts, and we wish you and your families a safe and enjoyable summer!

Best wishes,
Michelle, Dan, and Emily Scolnick
