Once winter storm "Fern" was projected to be a major incident, RFC Chief Michael Maguire began the process of prepping RFC to be ready for any emergency. Extra career staff and volunteers were requested to stand by on station Saturday night through Monday morning to get the apparatus on the road quickly. There were enough firefighters and EMS personnel to man several pieces of emergency apparatus. On Friday, the Mack and an ambulance were re-located to an underground garage for the duration of the storm to allow other emergency vehicle to be staged inside the station. Two volunteers and two career staff also went to the supermarket to purchase enough food to feed all those who were staying on station. By Saturday night, all personnel were on station and ready. Volunteers and Career staff worked side by side, not only on the emergency calls, but in the kitchen, as well. During the course of the storm, RFC handled numerous calls EMS and fire calls throughout our coverage area, including a cardiac arrest and a vehicle fire.
