At approximately 12:15 PM, while returning from an automatic alarm on Newtown Road, RFC was dispatched to a box alarm in Newtown Township to assist the Newtown Square Fire Company on a building fire on West Chelsea Circle.
Chief 15, Engine 15 and Deputy 15 made the initial response from Radnor.
Fireboard reported multiple callers seeing smoke from the roof. Newtown PD arrived on location and confirmed the report. The report caused Newtown Square Command to upgrade the incident bringing fire companies from both Delaware and Chester Counties to the scene.
Newtown Engine 41 and RFC Engine 15 arrived at the same time and Engine 15 laid in from a nearby hydrant.
Firefighters began an interior attack until the fire broke out through the roof. Crews were pulled out of the building and an exterior attack, using deck guns from Engine 15 and Engine 41, was begun. Once the fire was knocked down, crews re-entered the building.
Due to temperatures hovering around 100 degrees, crews were rotated in and out frequently.
RFC crews were released from the fire ground right around 3 o'clock and returned to Radnor to clean and place the apparatus back in service. |
