On Friday, August 12th around 5 PM, Radnor Fire Company Fire and EMS was dispatched, along with Broomall Fire Company and Marple EMS, to the area of mile marker 11.2 on the Blue Route for a crash with entrapment.
RFC arrived on location in the southbound lanes with a vehicle on its' side. The crew further reported that a tractor trailer had gone through the guardrail from the southbound lanes and collided with a tractor trailer in the northbound lanes. The tractor trailers blocked all three northbound lanes.
Crews determined that the most serious injury was to the tractor trailer driver who had crossed over the median. The driver was transported to the hospital by RFC EMS and later passed away.
The occupants and drivers of the other vehicles received minor injuries.
Crews remained on location until PSP completed their investigation and the vehicles were removed from the roadway.
The last RFC apparatus returned to station after 1 AM.
