2019 Combined Fire, EMS Calls Is Second-Highest in Past Five Years

WAYNE, PA (January 25, 2020) – The Radnor Fire Company of Wayne (RFC), today released its 2019 year-end fire and EMS call volume numbers showing the second highest call volume for fire related calls and EMS -- 3,177 combined calls -- over the past five years.

Fire Statistics
Radnor Fire Company responded to 809 fire calls in 2019; 604 in Radnor Township, 89 in Tredyffrin Township, and 116 in other neighboring townships. RFC called for assistance from other fire companies 72 times and assisted other fire companies 126 times during the year.
Total fire loss for Radnor Township in 2019 was $1,861,400. Total fire loss in Tredyffrin was $43,500. Significant fires with property loss in Radnor came in April on Newtown Road, May at the Radnor Township Bus Garage, June on Windsor Avenue, and July on Louella Avenue.

EMS Statistics, Call Volume Times
Radnor Fire Company responded to 2,368 EMS calls in 2019. The primary injury encountered across all EMS calls was falls followed second by motor vehicle accidents.
“Year over year, we continue to see consistency with the highest call volume days and times for both fire and EMS,” said Eamon C. Brazunas (EFO, CFO), Radnor Fire Company’s executive director. “Our numbers show that Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., are the days and times the community calls on us the most. Unfortunately, that is also the time that many of our volunteers are working and don’t have the opportunity to respond.”
According to Brazunas, in 2019, Monday, Wednesday and Friday showed the highest call volume for both fire and EMS. During the day, the combined call volume responses rise steadily from 7 a.m. to noon, and peak from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Volunteer Work Hours
The members of Radnor Fire Company volunteered a total of 10,202 work hours in 2019. Emergency responses accounted for a total of 1,937 volunteer hours. Total training hours worked by volunteers was 2,179 hours. RFC volunteers spent a total of 630 hours attending training classes at local fire schools in Delaware, Montgomery and Chester counties. Miscellaneous work hours on administrative, fire house, and fire prevention activities by volunteers accounted for 5,456 hours.

2019 RFC Recruiting Campaign Success
In October of 2019, RFC launched a new recruiting website focused on helping boost the fire company’s volunteer ranks, while also strongly communicating the many personal benefits and challenges offered by volunteering locally as a firefighter or ambulance member. The new website www.JoinRadnorFireEms.com, was supported with a direct-mail campaign to more than 5,000 heads of households in Radnor Township and the portions of Tredyffrin Township covered by the fire company.
To-date, the campaign has generated more than 30 new leads and several new fire and EMS members for Radnor Fire Company.
