Twelve members of RFC finished their "Heavy Vehicle Rescue Operations" certification with a practical exercise on Saturday. Members had previously attended classroom sessions as the first part of the class. Using a donated Radnor school bus and a pick up truck, members worked through various stations using assorted hydraulic rescue tools, saws, air bags, cribbing, and stabilization struts. Firefighters learned the proper techniques for stabilizing vehicles, removing bus windows, removing seats, opening the walls of the bus and victim removal. The final evolution of the day was a simulated crash between the pick up and school bus. Firefighters broke into two teams and worked the crash as they would on an actual scene. Thanks to Instructor Bill Elder and his team for this great training opportunity. |
