At a little after 6AM this morning, Radnor Fire Company was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm at 128 East Lancaster Avenue, reported to be a basement smoke detector. Prior to apparatus responding, the 911 Center received a call from a passerby reporting flames at the rear of the commercial store. This upgraded the call to a building fire which brought an additional engine from the Berwyn Fire Company. Quint 15 arrived on the School Lane side of the building with an exterior AC unit involved with fire extending into the basement. Deputy 15 arrived and assumed command. Crews went into service with an 1 3/4” line, knocked down the outside fire and then forced entry into the basement where they knocked down the interior fire. While some firefighters started to overhaul, the other firefighters began positive pressure ventilation on the original building and then the buildings on either side which also had smoke inside. Firefighters cleared the scene within two hours and returned to the firehouse to get equipment back in service. There were no firefighter or citizen injuries. |
