Carbon Monoxide Incident in St. Davids
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Chief Joe Maguire
August 14, 2023

On Monday, August 14th, PECO workers were on location at a house on Hilaire Road investigating a complaint of carbon monoxide, called in by the resident. When PECO entered the house, they had readings of up to 300 ppm (parts per million), which prompted them to evacuate and call Radnor Fire Company.

RFC crews arrived and confirmed the high readings. Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) began with fans set up at a first-floor door. Crews monitored the air being forced out of the basement Bilko doors using gas meters. Once the levels fell below 30 ppm, firefighters entered the house wearing SCBA and continued monitoring the air, placing another fan inside the house.

When levels neared zero, PECO employees re-entered the house to determine the cause of the CO.
After the employees tagged the appropriate equipment, RFC cleared.

Firefighters and apparatus returned to the firehouse after an hour on scene.

There were no injuries to residents, PECO employees or RFC personnel.
