| The Radnor Fire Company, along with mutual aid from the Berwyn Fire Company, was dispatched to the 100 block of W. Wayne Ave. for reports of smoke coming from a building at 11:42 a.m. After the Delaware County 9-1-1 Center received several more calls, it was determined the correct location of the fire was in the 200 block of W. Lancaster Ave. First arriving firefighters encountered heavy smoke showing from a large two story mixed occupancy commercial building. Radnor Fire Chief Michael Maguire established 'Lancaster Ave. Command' and confirmed a fire in the building that was in danger of spreading. Personnel from Radnor worked alongside Berwyn firefighters to quickly locate and extinguish fire in the 1st and 2nd floors of the building. The crew of Quint 15 went to the roof to stop the fire from spreading out of control on the roof, while Berwyn Tower 2 and Bryn Mawr Ladder 23 provided assistance with additional personnel. Firefighters from the area assisted with various firefighting duties during the incident. Through a coordinated team effort the fire was placed under control in less than an hour. The building was occupied at the time of the fire. However, all customers, merchants and employees were able to escape safely. Several businesses in the building suffered significant smoke, fire and water damage. The Radnor Township Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, which is believed to have started in the kitchen area of the White Dog Café on the 1st floor. All Radnor units were clear of the scene by 3:00 p.m. There was no reported firefighter or civilian injuries. |
