WAYNE, PA - Radnor Fire Company members received classroom and on-line training recently which covered the techniques of Wilderness Search and Rescue.

During Monday night drill, firefighters and EMS crews put their search and rescue skills to the test when the training exercise took them to Skunk Hollow Park at Darby-Paoli and Saw Mill Roads.

A member entered the park prior to the exercise and hid in the thick underbrush, leaving several personal pieces of property in the area which the rescuers had to find in order to point them in the right direction. Three separate teams entered the park from different locations to start the search. A Command Post was set up which monitored the crews' progress. Within thirty (30) minutes of starting the search, one team located and transported the victim, via ATV, to the Command Post.

Afterward, back at the firehouse, a critique was held to go over the scenario and equipment was cleaned and placed back in service.
