Early Morning Fatal Crash on I-476

WAYNE, PA - On Sunday, March 14th at 4:59 a.m. in the morning, Radnor Fire Company was dispatched to the Blue Route for a motor vehicle collision with entrapment.

MICU 15 (crew of a medic and an EMT), Chief 15, Squad 15 and Rescue 15 responded to the scene. MICU 15 and Chief 15 arrived at the scene in Lower Merion Township and found two vehicles, with heavy damage, blocking the highway. It was quickly determined that the occupant of the first vehicle was deceased.

The Squad and Rescue were assigned to the second vehicle to begin extrication of the sole occupant. George Clay and Gladwyne fire companies arrived shortly afterward and assisted in the rescue operation. The Bryn Mawr Fire Company set up a landing zone on the highway for PENNSTAR medical helicopter which had been requested by the EMS crew.

After the victim was extricated, Radnor Fire Company EMS and the PENNSTAR flight crew transported the victim to Lankenau Medical Center by ambulance where they were pronounced dead.
