Radnor Fire Company members had the opportunity to participate this morning in a 9/11 remembrance Blue Mass and Bell Ringing Ceremony at St. Issac Jogues Catholic Church in Wayne.

Local fire companies including Berwyn Fire Company, Paoli Fire Company, Malvern Fire Company, Tredyffrin Police Deparment, and the Chester County Sherrif's Office joined in the mass and ceremony honoring the memory of those who died including those who gave their lives in the service of others.

Known as, "The Ringing of the Bell," the ceremony is usually done after the Fireman's Prayer. The ringing of the bell is the final event of a Line of Death Ceremony that announces a Comrade has come home for that final time. After each set of ringing the bell 3 times, the fingers of a gloved hand gently grab the bell to silence it before sounding the next ring of 3. As the final toll of the 3rd pull, the bell is left alone to ring out.

Today, Radnor Fire Company remembers and honors those who lost their lives and salute the bravery of those who responded on September 11th, 2001.
