Radnor Fire Fighters Join Local Mutual Aid Companies Saturday For Drafting Drill in Easttown Township

Despite the intense heat today, volunteers and career staff from the Radnor Fire Company joined fire fighters from Berwyn Fire Co., Paoli Fire Co., Malvern Fire Co., East Whiteland Fire Co., Valley Forge Vol. Fire Co., and Newtown Square Fire Co. in conducting a water supply drill at Leopard Lakes Farm in Easttown Township. This was the first drill for the 1st alarm companies since the (3) new dry fire hydrants were installed this past April.

Unlike a normal fire hydrant that runs off of a water main, dry hydrants work by pulling the water out of the water source (ie. lake, pond, pool) via a hose connected to a fire truck. This is commonly referred to as 'drafting' in the fire service. Prior to this project coming to fruition, there were no fire hydrants that adequately served this neighborhood.

Most areas of Radnor Township have water supply from hydrants, however, drafting can be necessary in remote locations or when water pressure drops.

A big thanks to Berwyn Fire Company and Berwyn Chief Eamon Brazunas for organizing this important drill.

Sorry we missed some folks in the group shot!
