Radnor Fire Company Responds Monday to Blue Route Accident with Heavy Entrapment

Today at approximately 1045 hours, the Radnor Fire Company, Broomall Fire Company, and Marple Ambulance were dispatched to the area of Interstate 476 Southbound, Mile Marker 12.6, for a report of a motor vehicle accident with heavy entrapment.

MICU 15 was first arriving with a 3 vehicle MVA involving a PENNDOT barrier vehicle, a Doge RAM 3500 pickup truck, and a Mercdes sedan in the left shoulder and travel lane. Rescue 15, QRS 15 and Assistant 15 also responded. Medic 15 advised responding units that the driver of the Dodge was heavily entrapped.

Rescue 15 established "Blue Route Command" and was relieved by Assistant 15 upon his arrival. Crews from Radnor Fire Company and Broomall Fire company performed extrication services involving door removal and a dashboard displacement. The extrication took approximately 35 minutes.

The male driver/sole occupant was conscious and alert throughout the extrication process. He complained of minor pain in his left shoulder and appeared to have lacerations and abrasions. After being extricated, he was moved via stretcher to MICU-15 and was assessed by on scene EMS personnel. He was transported via MICU-15 to Paoli Hospital.

The driver of the PENNDOT truck was assessed and transported to Crozier Chester Memorial for minor injuries. "Blue Route Command" was terminated and Traffic 53 remained on scene to assist State Police with traffic control.

Radnor Fire Company used three, 50 pound bags of oil dry on scene.
