Radnor Fire Company members took advantage of the icy weather during weekly drills this Monday to practice technical rescue and rigging techniques. RFC members drilled on ropes, knots, rigging mechanical advantage systems, and rescue using stokes baskets and the Sked rescue system.

Often times “seemingly routine” incidents such as EMS responses, challenging terrain or fire incidence rescues can develop into situations where fire and EMS crews must incorporate aspects of technical rescue in order to mitigate the situation. In situations where specialized units are not assigned and specialized equipment is not available, firefighters on scene will be tasked with initiating a game plan utilizing standard equipment such as webbing, rope, carabiners, ladders, backboards and stokes baskets.

RFC's volunteers put in hundreds of hours each year training in-house and at the fire academies in Delaware, Montgomery and Chester counties.
